This client brief explored branding and product packaging for the Samuel & Sons Tea Company, an organic loose leaf tea company based in Boston, MA. Named in reference to Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty, this brand is heavily inspired by the Boston Tea Party and historical revolution; and founded by Boston natives, Samuel & Sons Tea Co. is dedicated to making history fun, accessible, and delicious. This company is quite cheeky yet educational, and that is communicated through the final designs.
The design for the logo was inspired by the stamped emblems on old shipping crates. It features a teacup ship, stars and stripes, and the company name in the font Nexa Rust Sans Black. Secondary logos were developed for vertical and horizontal orientations. The brand colors also integrate classic patriotic hues as well as earthy, calming tones often associated with tea.
Design for the tea boxes and loose leaf canisters were further inspired by shipping crates with the logo stamped on top. Further antique inspiration is used in the illustrated wax seals to denote flavor. Altogether, as well as by using the natural cardboard color as the background of the boxes and canisters, these create a rustic brand personality while the illustrated crates in the water add a humorous and slightly irreverent twist.
